23. Can efficiency of machinery lubrication worsen when changing an oil supplier?
Machine lubrication conditions may worsen if, when changing an oil supplier, oils will be delivered
from another (others) manufacturer (manufacturers) than so far. The lubricating and functional
properties of oil may be changed (lost) as a consequence of adding other oil types (even if they
have equivalent or better physiochemical parameters). It becomes harder, as well, to monitor oil
properties, and it is almost impossible to diagnose the technical condition of machines on the basis
of oil monitoring (more about oil mixing rules in the guide_18).
If the process of shifting an oil supplier is prepared poorly, operating costs may rise
substantially and production can be lost due to interruptions, unforeseen machine timeouts,
and consequently, lower availability of the entire machinery base.
If oil and lubricant suppliers are changed frequently, then is the first step towards the
emergency maintenance strategy.
